On Thursday, February 27, 2020, at approximately 5:58 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Palm Desert Station, responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the area of Dinah Shore Drive and Miriam Way, Palm Desert. Upon the deputy’s arrival they located a 52 -year-old white male adult suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Life saving measures were performed, but the male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old white male adult, from Palm Desert, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, and was later released.

The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was in the crosswalk but crossing against a “don’t walk” sign when he was struck by the vehicle (Chevrolet Suburban). The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the coroner’s office once positive identification can be established, and next of kin can be notified.
