On Monday, October 16, 2023, at 8:34 p.m., deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station responded to the intersection of San Jacinto Avenue and 6th Street in the city of San Jacinto regarding a major injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Deputies arrived and located the pedestrian in the middle of the intersection, unresponsive. Cal-Fire immediately arrived and began rendering aid to the pedestrian. Due to the severity of the injuries, the pedestrian was airlifted to a local trauma center.
The San Jacinto Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing at an uncontrolled intersection when they were struck by a vehicle that was southbound on San Jacinto Avenue. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, cooperated with the investigation, and was later released. Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor. This investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
The collision investigation required the temporary closure of San Jacinto Avenue to process the scene and collect evidence.
On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office was advised that the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries while at the hospital. The identity of the deceased subject will be released by the Riverside Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau, pending notification to the next of kin.
