Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Sean Liebrand
File # MV233010327
Details:
On February 2, 2023, at 5:00 p.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 21600 block of Winding Road in Moreno Valley regarding an unresponsive male adult, later identified as 27-year-old Jesse Jimenez. Deputies performed lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful, and Jimenez was pronounced deceased. The case was immediately assumed by the Riverside Sheriff’s Overdose Death Investigations and Narcotics Unit (ODIN). The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau determined Jimenez died as a result of fentanyl poisoning. Investigators worked to identify the suspect responsible for selling the fentanyl that killed Jimenez. As a result of their efforts, the suspect was identified as Savanna Michelle Carlos, a 21-year-old resident of Moreno Valley.
On October 24, 2023, the investigation was presented to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office and charges were filed against Carlos for murder. On October 27, 2023, personnel from ODIN learned Carlos was in custody at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in San Bernardino for an unrelated case. ODIN responded to the rehabilitation center, contacted Carlos and advised her of the pending charges. Once she has cleared her cases in San Bernardino, Carlos will be transferred to the custody of the Riverside Sheriff’s Office to face the murder charge. This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Master Investigator Cornett at 951-955-1700.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind citizens of the dangers of illicit narcotics, many of which may contain fentanyl. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 100 times stronger than morphine and can cause death or serious bodily harm.
