Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Patrick Lynch
File # I232890009
Details:
On October 16, 2023, at 6:28 a.m., deputies responded to Ramona Expressway, west of Warren Road, in the city of San Jacinto, regarding a major-injury traffic collision. Deputies arrived and located three vehicles with extensive damage spread across both lanes of the expressway. Cal-Fire responded, and began rendering aid to all occupants. Two occupants in a dark colored, small SUV were pronounced deceased at the scene. The drivers of the other two vehicles were transported to local hospitals with moderate injuries.
The San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed the SUV was traveling eastbound on Ramona Expressway, at a high rate of speed. The driver attempted to pass another vehicle, struck the center median, and went into oncoming traffic, colliding with a utility truck. The impact caused the SUV to cross back over into eastbound lanes, where it was struck by another vehicle. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The identity of the deceased subjects will not be released at this time, pending notification to the next of kin.
The collision investigation required the temporary closure of Ramona Expressway, between Bridge Street and Sanderson Avenue in order to process the scene and collect evidence. Anyone with information related this incident is encouraged to contact Deputy Post at the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station at 951-766-2365 or Riverside County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 951-776-1099.
