The victim stated about 12:41 p.m., she was in her vehicle on the side of the road near Nuevo Road and Pico Avenue in Nuevo when an older white male adult, between 50-60 years old, walked up and pointed a silver handgun at her demanding her vehicle. The suspect drove away in the victim’s vehicle, leaving her at the side of the road. A police report was taken, and the license place of the victim’s vehicle was flagged as stolen.
On Thursday, June 22, 2023, about 2:15 p.m., deputies from the Perris Station received an alert of the stolen vehicle near Hwy 74 x Pico Avenue in Nuevo. Perris deputies located and stopped the vehicle near the 23000 block of Pico Avenue in Nuevo. The driver, Terry Chappell, a 71-year-old resident of Washington state, was detained and brought to the Perris Station. Chappell was positively identified as the suspect that stole the victim’s vehicle using a handgun. The victim’s vehicle was processed for evidence, but the handgun was not located.
