On November 12, 2019, at the direction of Sheriff Bianco, personnel from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hemet Station, with the assistance of the Water Board, Riverside County Code Enforcement, and Riverside Alternative Sentencing Program served two marijuana cultivation search warrants in the unincorporated county area known as Sage.  The two locations, one in the 44000 Block of Timber Trail, the other in the 34000 Block of E. Benton Rd., Sage, had been identified as possible sources of shots being fired in the direction of a deputy during a previous routine call for service in the area.

During the service, 1987 plants, 388 pounds of processed marijuana, and 188 pounds of marijuana trim were collected for a total of approximately four tons.  Three handguns and four rifles, two of which were classified as Assault Rifles, were seized.

During the operation,  personnel encountered the extremely toxic pesticide Carbofuran.  The pesticide, which is pink in color and deadly if ingested or inhaled, was brushed onto roots of several plants. Riverside County Department of Environmental Health Hazardous Materials (HazMat) responded to the scene to collect the pesticide.

The goal of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is to keep all of our citizens safe while also improving the quality of life for those residing within the community.  Marijuana cultivation negatively impacts the environment in many ways including diminishing and poisoning the water table and pesticides adversely affecting the health of neighboring residents.  The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has a zero-tolerance policy for these offenses.  If you suspect drug activity in your area, please contact your local Sheriff’s Station.  The Hemet Sheriff’s Station can be reached at (951) 791-3400 and the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station can be reached at (951) 766-2400.
