This morning, at 2:16 am, a Riverside County Sheriff's deputy was involved in a traffic collision with another vehicle in the intersection of Esplanade and State Street in the city of San Jacinto. The deputy is assigned to the Hemet Station and was responding to back another deputy on a call for service.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for moderate injuries. The deputy was transported to a local hospital, where he is being treated for substantial injuries. He is currently in critical condition.
A second deputy who responded to the collision was also injured while attempting to extract the deputy from his vehicle. That deputy was also transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for a knee injury and released.
The California Highway Patrol is conducting the traffic investigation. At this time, no additional information will be released.
