On April 26, 2023, at 7:08 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Bureau were in the unincorporated area of Meadowbrook serving a warrant for a wanted felon. Deputies saw a subject matching the description of the wanted felon leave the residence in a vehicle and attempted a traffic enforcement stop. The suspect failed to yield, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.
The suspect lost control of the vehicle near Meadowbrook Avenue and Peach Street. The suspect exited the vehicle, fired at deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Deputies rendered medical aid to the suspect until paramedics arrived; however, the male suspect was later pronounced deceased. The suspect's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. No deputies were injured during this incident.
The involved deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave according to Department policy. The names of the involved deputies will also not be released at this time. An investigator from the Riverside County District Attorney's Office assigned to the Riverside Sheriff's Force Investigations Detail will lead this investigation. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
