On April 20, 2023, at about 7:35 a.m., deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff Station were dispatched to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1700 block of S. Santa Fe Ave., San Jacinto. Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased female with multiple sharp force injuries inside the apartment. Deputies also detained a male subject in front of the apartment.

The area was secured as a crime scene and station investigators responded to begin the investigation. The Central Homicide Unit also responded and assumed the investigation. This case was determined to be a domestic violence incident. The female victim was identified as Ruth Liera, 71 years, and the male suspect was identified as the victim’s husband, Lorenzo Liera, 70 years, both residents of San Jacinto. Lorenzo Liera was arrested for murder and booked at the Cois Byrd Correctional Facility.
