On Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 3:32 PM, Cabazon Station deputies conducted an area check near the Pacific Crest Trail and the 10 Freeway, in the unincorporated area of Whitewater. Deputies observed an individual, later identified as Peter Forster a 52-year-old resident of Whitewater, run from a stolen off-road vehicle. Forster was later apprehended in the open desert. During this investigation, they also located approximately 200 feet of stolen copper wire. Forster was later booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
