On December 17, 2022, at 3:15 PM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the 24100 block of Cottonwood Avenue, Moreno Valley, reference a report of an armed robbery at gunpoint. While speaking with the victim, deputies learned he listed an item for sale via an online marketplace and arranged to meet with the buyer on Cottonwood Avenue. After presenting the item for sale, he was robbed of the item at gunpoint. Deputies checked the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him. Between December 17, 2022 and December 23, 2022, three additional armed robberies occurred within the city of Moreno Valley, with similar circumstances.
The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Robbery/Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) assumed the investigation and followed-up on all leads. It was determined all four robberies were committed by the same suspect, Marvin Haywood, a 19-year-old resident of Moreno Valley. On December 28, 2022, RBST located Marvin in the area of Perris Boulevard and John F. Kennedy Drive, Moreno Valley, where he was arrested without incident. RBST subsequently served a search warrant at Marvin’s residence in the 15100 block of Perris Boulevard, Moreno Valley, where items related to the robberies were located. Marvin was later transported and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on multiple felony charges.
RBST would like to remind the public that the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station has a dedicated “Safe Exchange” location in the parking lot of the station and should be utilized as a meeting location for the sale of items. Anyone with additional information regarding these incidents is encouraged to contact Deputy Jordan Merle at the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-486-6700.
