Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Dave Tinker
File # PC221950010
Details:
On Thursday, July 14, 2022, Perris Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a carjacking at Post Road and Canal Street, in the unincorporated area of Riverside County known as Good Hope. The victim reported that two suspects stole his Off-Road Utility Vehicle (UTV) as he confronted them while on the phone with 911. The suspects, later identified as 42-year-old Deshan English and 24-year-old Byron DeGraw Jr. assaulted the victim, stole his cell phone, and fled the scene in his stolen UTV and a brown SUV. The suspects were in the process of stealing additional off road vehicles from another location when the victim confronted them. The victim later located his stolen UTV and cell phone down the street from the above location after it was abandoned by the suspects. The suspects stole a portable generator from a third location, but it was also recovered.
The Perris Stations’ Robbery Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) assumed the investigation and were able to get a license plate for the brown SUV. The Perris Station’s Watch 4 Special Enforcement Team (SET) responded to the 22000 Block of Carter Drive and located DeGraw Jr. and the registered owner of the vehicle. DeGraw Jr. was positively identified as one of the carjacking suspects and taken into custody. RBST obtained information of the whereabouts of second suspect, Deshan English. Perris Watch 4 SET responded to a homeless encampment located off Salter Road and took English into custody without incident. English was positively identified as the second carjacking suspect. English and DeGraw Jr. were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for Carjacking, Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Dissuading a witness/victim.
On July 15, 2022, RBST located one of the stolen Quads and returned it to the owners. This investigation is on-going.
Anyone with additional information is urged to call I Investigator Rooker at Riverside County Sheriff’s dispatch at (951) 776-1099, or the Perris Station at (951) 210-1000.
