On June 17, 2022, members of the Coachella Community Action Team (CCAT), conducted a sting operation regarding the illegal sales of tobacco products. This operation was in conjunction with a Tobacco grant the city of Coachella was recently awarded. During the operation, decoys, who were not of the legal age to purchase tobacco, were sent into approximately eight businesses who sold tobacco products and attempted to purchase tobacco. Out of the eight businesses, three of them sold tobacco products to the decoys. The following businesses were cited for selling underage persons tobacco products:
- M Market
- Valley Meat Market
- Alpha Smoke Shop
