[ARCHIVED] National Click or Ticket

Riverside County Sheriff's Department Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant K. Bikul

File # N/A

Perris, Calif. – The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, city of Perris, is joining agencies across the country promoting the importance of wearing a seat belt in the car and keeping children safe by making sure they are properly restrained.

This year’s Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign is from May 6th to June 5th. During this time, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department – Perris station, will have additional deputies on patrol throughout the city of Perris, looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seat belt. This includes drivers who do not properly secure children in child safety seats.

Sergeant Bikul kindly reminds everyone, “Please buckle up. Wearing a seatbelt is the most effective thing you can do to protect yourself and your passengers in a traffic collision.”

Under California law, Children under 2 years of age shall ride in a rear-facing car seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall. The child shall be secured in a manner that complies with the height and weight limits specified by the manufacturer of the car seat. Children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat. Children who are 8 years of age OR have reached 4’9” in height may be secured by a booster seat, but at a minimum must be secured by a safety belt. Passengers who are 16 years of age and over are subject to California's Mandatory Seat Belt law.

To find a car seat fitting station near you, visit the California Office of Traffic Safety website, or California Highway Patrol’s office finder.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
