On Thursday, October 28, 2021, the La Quinta Special Enforcement Team (SET) with the assistance of the La Quinta Traffic Team, the Coachella Community Action Team, and the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District, served a fraud related search warrant at the 45000 block of King Street, in Indio. The search warrant stemmed from a check fraud incident in which the victim‘s total loss was about $12,000; the fraud incident was reported on August 20, 2021 out of La Quinta. Phillip Padilla, 36 of Indio, was arrested for check fraud, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a high capacity magazine, and committing a felony while out on bail. Padilla was booked at the John J. Benoit Detention Center.
