|Reporting Officer:||Sergeant Robert Torres|
On July 9, 2021, about 10:39 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Norco Station, responded to a report of a major injury traffic collision near the intersection of Hamner Avenue and 5th Street, in the city of Norco. Deputies arrived on-scene to find a 50 year-old female had been struck by a vehicle. The vehicle had fled the scene but was quickly located in the city of Corona.
The Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. Information obtained during the investigation revealed the driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro traveled south on Hamner Avenue and struck the female who was in the roadway walking east. The female succumbed to her injuries on scene, despite life saving measures taken by responding deputies.
The identities of the involved parties, including the deceased, will not be released pending further investigation and the notification to the next of kin. At this time, it remains uncertain if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision. Due to the collision investigation and the need for extensive cleanup, a temporary closure of Hamner Avenue, between 5th Street and 6th Street, was required.
