|Mark Anthony Stewart|
On April 8, 2021, at 6:53 pm, deputies from the Colorado River Station were dispatched to a disturbance call on 8th Avenue near Intake Boulevard in the unincorporated area of Blythe. The reporting party informed dispatch that their adult son was attempting to force his way into their home to retrieve his gun. When deputies arrived, they contacted Mark Anthony Stewart, a 34 year old resident of Blythe, in front of the residence and detained him. Stewart told deputies he wanted to obtain his gun and other personal belongings so he could go to a friend’s residence. Stewart also admitted to being a convicted felon and was subsequently advised he could not own or possess firearms. Deputies confirmed Stewart had damaged a door to the residence while attempting to break in. As deputies were detaining Stewart, he became agitated and attempted to run away, causing deputies to use physical force to take him into custody. Stewart was not injured during his arrest.
Deputies confirmed Stewart was a convicted felon and were able to obtain the firearm from the occupants of the residence. As the investigation continued, deputies learned Stewart had been staying in a trailer on the property periodically. With the property owner’s consent, deputies searched the trailer and located a handgun, ammunition, as well as two additional high capacity magazines. Stewart was arrested and booked into Blythe jail for the following charges:
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Felon in possession of ammunition
- Possession of high capacity magazines
- Resisting arrest
