Update:

On January 31, 2021 the victim in this case died from her injuries at a hospital. Prior to the death of the victim, Salvador Joseph Barnes, was released on bail. An arrest warrant for Salvador Barnes for second degree murder was obtained. On February 3, 2021, Salvador Barnes was taken into custody on the Murder warrant. Salvador Barnes was booked into custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center.

Details:

On January 28, 2021, at 6: 45 PM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff Station responded to a report of a major injury traffic collision on Heacock Street at Ironwood Avenue, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived within a minute and discovered a single vehicle collided with a signal light pole. A 6-year old passenger had major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle, Salvador Joseph Barnes, 44 years old of Moreno Valley, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Members of the Moreno Valley Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and are investigating this collision. After further investigation, Barnes was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury. The roadway was closed with detours for approximately five hours for the scene investigation.
