On November 4, 2020, at 1047 hours, deputies from the Perris station were dispatched to a disturbance between a male armed with a firearm and a female in the 700 block of Clearwater Drive in the city of Perris. When deputies arrived, they observed a male matching the description of the armed subject enter a vehicle in the driveway. Deputies were able to safely detain the subject, identified as Juan Chavez, without incident. Deputies from the Perris/Lake Elsinore Gang Task Force recognized Chavez as a local gang member who was on probation and responded to the location where they assumed the investigation. During a search of Chavez’s vehicle and residence, deputies located a stolen .22 caliber rifle, several rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, brass knuckles, gang indicia, and drug paraphernalia.
Chavez, a 32-year-old resident of Perris, was arrested and booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center for the following charges:
- Felon convicted of a violent crime in possession of a firearm
- Felon in possession of ammunition
- Possession of a stolen firearm
- Possession of illegal weapons
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
