On October 8, 2020, deputies responded to the 30400 block of South Fork, in Canyon Lake, after receiving a call from Mark Vermillion (61 years of age), who said he had just attempted to murder his mother with a hacksaw.
Upon arrival, deputies located the victim in the master bedroom with half of her right foot severed. Deputies immediately performed life saving measures. The victim was transported to the Inland Valley Medical Center and listed in stable condition. Deputies detained Vermillion at the scene.
Mark Vermillion was transported to the Cois Byrd Detention Center and booked on charges of attempted murder, mayhem and elder abuse.
