Details:

On Wednesday, September 16, 2020, about 9:15 AM, a motorcycle enforcement deputy from the Moreno Valley Station was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Heacock Street and Dracaea Avenue when he attempted to stop the driver of a black Jeep for driving while intoxicated. The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren; however, the driver of the Jeep failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.  The pursuit traveled on surface streets to the intersection of Indian Avenue and Krameria Avenue where the suspect failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling west on Krameria Avenue.  This collision caused major damage to both vehicles.  The driver and passenger of the Hyundai sustained injuries as a result of the collision and were immediately provided first aid.  They were transported by ambulance to an area hospital where they were treated and released.  After colliding with the Hyundai, the Jeep overturned, and the suspect driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.  The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Sheriff’s personnel secured the scene of the collision.  Personnel from the California Highway Patrol - Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and conducted the collision investigation.  The area of Indian Avenue and Krameria Avenue was closed and traffic was diverted onto area roadways until the investigation concluded.  The roadway was reopened about 5:00 PM.  Any witnesses or information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Sergeant Bryan De Loss at the Moreno Valley Station, 951-486-6805.
