On Thursday, May 22nd, 2020, at 10:25 P.M. the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force assisted California Highway Patrol in reference to a single vehicle traffic collision that occurred on the Eastbound I-10 Date Palm Drive offramp. During the investigation, the driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm Glock semi-auto handgun with a threaded barrel, as well as suspected cocaine. Gang Task Force Officers assumed the investigation and subsequently arrested the driver, convicted felon and documented gang member, Christopher Elyjah Martinez, 26 of Cathedral City. Martinez was charged with Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Gang Member in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of a Loaded Firearm with Narcotics. Martinez was booked at the Indio Jail.
