On April 03, 2020, Thermal Station Deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), that occurred in the area of 7th Street and Dale Kiler Road, Mecca. The suspects shot the victim in the abdomen after an attempted robbery, then fled the scene. The victim was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.
On April 06, 2020, The Southern Coachella Community Services District Team (SCVCSD) assumed the investigation and assisted Deputy Molina with the case. Deputies identified the suspects as Angel Valdez (23 years) of Thermal and Roman Segura Jr (25 years) of Coachella. Valdez was located in the area of Avenue 70th and Pierce Street, Thermal and taken into custody without further incident.
On April 09, 2020, SCVCSD, Coachella Community Action Team, and La Quinta Special Enforcement Team deputies served a search warrant in the area of 50400 Block of Mazatlan Drive, Coachella. Segura was located and taken into custody without further incident.
Both Valdez and Segura have been booked at Indio Detention Center for attempted murder and robbery in concert.
