On July 26, 2019 at 7:29 p.m., Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded to a report of a head-on vehicle collision that occurred at Highway 86 Expressway and Avenue 50 in the city of Coachella. It was determined that Felipe Tello, 38 of Indio, was traveling northbound on the Expressway when he veered into the highway median and into oncoming southbound traffic where he struck a vehicle traveling southbound on the Expressway. Four occupants of that vehicle were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Tello was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol intoxication appears to be a factor in the collision. Due to the severity of his injury, Felipe Tello will be charged out of custody with DUI-Causing Injury.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department encourages all drivers not to drink and drive. To report drunk drivers, please call 911.
