On 07/04/19, at about 02:20 AM, Coachella deputies responded to Cesar Chavez St and Westerfield Wy, reference a traffic collision.  Investigation revealed driver Matthew Hernandez, 36yrs of Coachella, drove his white Toyota Corolla and collided into a black Nissan Rogue.  Hernandez and his passenger, Jacqueline Reyes, 34yrs of Indio fled from the scene but were apprehended a short distance away.  Hernandez was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and Hit n Run and Reyes was arrested for public intoxication and booked into the Indio Jail.  The occupant of the Nissan Rogue was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained during the collision.

The Coachella Police Department encourages all drivers not to drink and drive and encourages everyone wear their seatbelt.  To report drunk drivers, please call 911.  Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, at (760) 863-8990, or they can call anonymous tips at (760) 341-STOP (7867).
