The suspect in this case was identified as Anthony Santana, 21 years of Thermal.  This case remains an ongoing investigation.

Details:

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, about 4:30 PM, officers from the Indio Police Department responded to the 81000 block of Las Palmas Rd., in the city of Indio, searching for a suspect of a strong-arm robbery. While searching the area for the suspect, officers located a male in the area with a gun and an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect did not survive the incident.

There were no injuries sustained by law enforcement personnel or the public, and there are no outstanding suspects or threats to public safety. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The suspect’s name will not be released at this time, pending the ongoing investigation.

The officer(s) involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave per policy. The involved officer’s name(s) will not be released at this time. This is an active investigation and no additional details are currently available.
