On December 29, 2017, at 12:08 PM, officers from the Temecula Police Department responded to a suspicious circumstance call at a two-story residence located in 32000 block of Corte Carmona.  Officers arrived at the residence and determined a 26-year-old man had barricaded himself in the upstairs master bedroom with an elderly female.  While attempting to get him to open the bedroom door, the man started a fire in the master bathroom.  Officers forced the bedroom door open and they were able to rescue the elderly female, and get her to safety.  The man subsequently broke a window and jumped out on to the roof.  The man refused to come down as the interior of the residence was fully engulfed with fire.  He was eventually taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.  CalFire extinguished the fire.  The man will be booked into jail upon his release from the hospital.
