On Saturday, January 30, 2010, about 3:26 AM, Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of gunfire at a residence near the 42000 block of Rocky Ridge, in the unincorporated area of Aguanga. As the deputies responded, additional reports indicated an adult male, age 53, had been shot and lay wounded in the driveway at the location. The witnesses indicated the suspect, described as a white female adult, mid-50’s, fired several shots and remained on scene with the firearm.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a female who matched the physical description near the front of the residence and took her into custody without incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital and was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg. His injuries were believed to be non life threatening.
The suspect, identified as Leela McCawley, age 56 of Aguanga, was arrested and booked at the Southwest Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon.
