Press Release: Fatal Traffic Collision
Agency: Menifee Police
Station Area: Perris
Written Date: 05/25/19 Time: 03:00 PM
Incident Date: 05/25/19 Time: 07:47 AM
Incident Location: Newport Road x Menifee Road, Menifee
Reporting Officer: Sergeant John Burke
File Number(s): ME191450029

On Saturday, May 25, 2019, at approximately 7:47 AM, deputies from the Menifee Police Department responded to Newport Road and Menifee Road, in the city Menifee, regarding a report of a major injury traffic collision.  Upon arrival, deputies located a three vehicle collision.

The driver of a BMW coupe, an adult male and Menifee resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of a Honda Crosstour was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of a Dodge Charger was released at the scene with no injuries.

Witness statements coupled with evidence at the scene and a review of surveillance video from surrounding businesses revealed the Honda Crosstour was driving westbound Newport Road at a high rate of speed and struck the Dodge Charger.  The impact with the Dodge Charger caused the driver of the Honda Crosstour to lose control of his vehicle.  The Honda Crosstour traveled through the intersection of Newport Road and Menifee Road and collided with a BMW as it waited to make a westbound turn onto Newport Road from Menifee Road.  Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs is currently being investigated as a possible factor in this collision.

The Menifee Traffic Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information pertaining to this incident is encouraged to contact Deputy Josh Cail with the Menifee Traffic Team at (951) 210-1068 or email JCail@RiversideSheriff.org
