On Tuesday, April 30, about 8:32 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff Department, assigned to the contract city of Perris, responded to an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1800 block of El Nido Avenue. Within minutes deputies arrived and contacted a male armed with a knife. The suspect failed to comply with deputies commands and a deputy involved shooting occurred. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim was also transported to an area hospital and remains in critical condition. The suspect’s name will not be released pending identification and notification of next of kin. No deputies were injured during the incident and there are no outstanding suspects or threat to public safety.
The involved deputy has been placed on administrative leave per Department policy. The involved deputies’ name will not be released at this time. Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff Department's Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. This is an on-going investigation and no additional information is available for release.
