On Monday, 01/29/18, at 08:05 PM, Officers from the Perris Police Department responded to a report of a hit and run near Patriot Park in the city of Perris. A Chevy truck collided with a pedestrian and then fled the area. A witness to the collision, followed the Chevy and alerted responding Officers of its location. The driver, 50-year-old Ismael Rivas of Perris, was stopped by Officers and taken into custody for DUI and felony hit and run. The 47-year-old female pedestrian from Moreno Valley was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The decedent’s name is being withheld pending notification to her family. 

The Perris Traffic Team responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Rivas was found to have prior DUI convictions. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office was notified of this fatality and will seek murder charges against Rivas. Rivas was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.
