On July 10, 2019, at 8:04 AM, deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to the report of a downed cyclist near the intersection of Dinah Shore Drive and Monterey Avenue in the city of Rancho Mirage.  Upon arrival, deputies located a male in need of medical attention. The male was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.  The investigation revealed the cyclist was traveling east on Dinah Shore Drive when he veered off the roadway and entered an adjacent parking lot.  After entering the parking lot, the male struck a concrete pole.

The Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation.  Identification of the cyclist is pending notification of next of kin.  The investigation to determine the cause of the collision is ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the collision or has further information is asked to call Deputy Francis Avila of the Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Team at (760) 836-1600.
