The Barbara Sinatra Children's Center, located within the Eisenhower Medical Center Campus in Rancho Mirage, provides counseling for victims of physical, sexual and emotional child abuse. Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation developed with national child abuse experts, a national campaign on a child abuse awareness and prevention utilizing their “Protect Yourself Rules Videos and Lesson Plans.”
The objective of the program is to bring education and awareness to children about how to distinguish between safe and unsafe touches and what to do when confronted with abusive behavior. Every video in this series emphasizes the importance of going to a parent or another trusted adult when a child is confronted with an unsafe situation.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is committed to protecting the children of our communities and would like to invite parents, caregivers, and teachers to visit the following link to explore these videos to empower you and your children against sexual and physical abuse.
You can review the entire Protect Yourself Rules Series at www.fightchildabuse.org
Parents are encouraged to listen to their child, but not to continue questioning as it may confuse the information. Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center have specially trained interviewers to ask child victims a series of unbiased, non-leading questions to obtain the information in an age and developmentally appropriate manner.
If you are concerned or suspect your child to be a victim of abuse, we encourage you and your child to review the Protect Yourself Rules Series regarding abuse. Should your child make a disclosure of suspected abuse, immediately contact your local law enforcement agency, or the agency where the abuse was believed to have occurred.
