On Saturday June 8, 2019, at approximately 10:45 PM, Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Palm Desert Station, responded to a report of a major injury traffic collision in the area of Highway 111 and Lupine Lane, Palm Desert. Upon arrival, deputies located a collision involving a pedestrian and a Nissan sedan. Preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian, a 58-year-old Caucasian male from Palm Desert was crossing Highway 111 outside of the designated crosswalk, when he was struck by a Nissan traveling westbound on Highway 111. The collision caused major injuries to the pedestrian who was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old female of Palm Springs remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision. Identification of the pedestrian is pending notification of next of kin. The investigation to determine the cause of the collision is ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the collision or has further information is asked to call Deputy Nicole Wilhite of the Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Team at (760) 836-1600.
