On May 18, 2019, deputies responded to the 100 block of Capri Street in the city of Rancho Mirage regarding the report of gunfire. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed the sound of gunshots, surrounded a residence where the shots originated from and attempted to make contact with the occupant(s).

As a precaution, several homes within the area were evacuated. Riverside County S.W.A.T. responded and assumed the investigation. Deputies made continued efforts to contact the occupant(s). During the duration of the investigation, deputies confirmed the repeated sound of suspected gunfire.

Just before 3:00 PM, the sole occupant of the residence, Eugene Mueller, exited the home. Mueller is a 75-year-old resident of Rancho Mirage. Mueller was taken into custody without incident. No victims or additional occupants of the home were located. Mueller will be booked into the Riverside County Jail in the city of Indio for Negligent Discharge of a Firearm.  Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at 760-836-1600.
