On Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at approximately 1:09 PM, traffic officers from the Rancho Mirage Police Department responded to the area of Hwy 111 and Library Way in reference to a reported traffic collision involving a motorized scooter and vehicle.  Preliminary investigation revealed the scooter was traveling e/b on Hwy 111 when it turned left onto Library Way against a red signal. The scooter was struck by a Nissan minivan, causing the rider to be thrown off the scooter. The scooter was then struck a second time by a Toyota SUV. The female scooter rider was wearing a helmet during the collision and suffered severe, but non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in stable condition.  The involved motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with traffic officers.  Alcohol was not a factor in this collision. This investigation is ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the collision or has further information is asked to call Officer Bazanos from the Rancho Mirage Police Department’s Traffic Team at (760) 836-1600.
