On March 9, 2019, at 2:44 am, officers from the Palm Desert Police Department responded to a vehicle hit and run traffic collision near the intersection of Hwy 111 and Plaza Way, in the city of Palm Desert.  Upon arrival, officers observed recent damage to a delivery truck stationed at the location.  Witnesses assisted officers with a vehicle description and a license plate to the vehicle that left the scene of the traffic collision.  Officers observed a vehicle matching the description minutes after the traffic collision and conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Hwy 111 and Frank Sinatra in the city of Rancho Mirage.  Michael Castillo, 27 years, of Palm Springs, showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol.  After further investigation, Castillo was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.  Castillo was transported to a local area hospital as a precaution.  Castillo was later booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for driving under the influence of alcohol, Hit & Run, and leaving the scene of an accident.

The Palm Desert Police Department encourages all drivers not to drink and drive. To report drunk drivers, please call 911.
