Officers from the Palm Desert Police Department responded to the area Highway 111 and Monterey Ave, in the city of Palm Desert, reference a call of a possible traffic collision. Officers arrived and found a black Honda Civic off the roadway, on the landscaping on the southwest side of the intersection. The vehicle was wedged in between a landscaping boulder and a tree. Removing the vehicle caused minor damage to city property.
During the course of the investigation, the driver was determined to be Maria Gonzalez. It was also determined that Gonzalez was apparently driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and submitted to a blood test. She was taken to a local hospital for an OK to book, and subsequently booked at Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
