On December 23, 2017, at approximately 4:30 PM, a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the area of Little Morongo Road & Dillon Road, located in the un-incorporated community of South Desert Hot Springs. During the stop the deputy located a suspicious device inside of the vehicle. For precautionary purposes, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Departments Hazardous Device Team (HDT) was requested to assist with the suspicious device.

The Hazardous Device Team identified the object as an improvised explosive device. HDT took possession of the device and rendered it safe.  55-year-old, Desert Hot Springs resident, Norman Bell was arrested and booked into the Riverside County jail, located in the city of Indio for Reckless Possession of a Destructive Device.
