Details:

Officers from the Palm Desert Police Department Traffic Team responded to a report of an injury traffic collision, involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, on Portola Avenue at Magnesia Falls Drive in the City of Palm Desert. The involved vehicle fled the scene and was located by a responding unit at the intersection of Portola Avenue and Fred Waring Drive. The suspect was stopped and taken into custody at that location.

The Riverside County Fire Department responded and treated the pedestrian, who was transported by ambulance to Eisenhower Medical Center with moderate injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates that the motorist ran a red light, striking the pedestrian (who is a crossing guard) in the crosswalk.

The suspect, Mandy Guntman (39 years) of Palm Desert, was arrested and booked for felony hit-and-run and felony driving under the influence.

One lane of southbound Portola Avenue was closed for approximately one hour while the investigation was completed.

This investigation is continuing and the Department is asking anyone that may have witnessed this collision to contact the Palm Desert Police Traffic Division at (760) 836-1600.
