Checkpoint Results:

The Moreno Valley Police Department has just completed another DUI/CDL SAFETY CHECKPOINT. This operation ran from 1730 hours on January 28, 2010 through 0030 hours. The checkpoints were located on Pigeon Pass/Hemlock, Heacock/Myers, Alessandro/Indian, Redlands/Kalmia and Moreno Beach/Market Place in the City of Moreno Valley. The primary goals of the checkpoints were to screen for DUI drivers as well as unlicensed or suspended drivers. This was in response to collisions involving unlicensed, suspended and DUI drivers. Checkpoints at various times throughout the year are conducted to reduce drunk driving, and apprehend drivers with suspended and/or revoked licenses.

A total of 1,830 cars passed through the checkpoints. 23 drivers were issued citations and 48 vehicles were impounded. The majority of these citations and impounds were for suspended or unlicensed drivers. In addition, 2 felony arrests were made for various violations. A total of 10 field sobriety tests were conducted resulting in 2 arrests for driving while intoxicated.

Drunk driving is a major cause of fatal and injury collisions each year. We are seeking your assistance in saving lives. If you are on the roadways and you observe a possible drunk driver call 911 immediately. Officers will be dispatched to the location and make every effort to prevent the impaired driver from continuing to pose a threat.

The Moreno Valley Police Department wishes to remind you that if you choose to drink alcoholic beverages, please designate a sober driver before getting into a vehicle. Remember “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest!”

Impaired Driving Targeted by
Moreno Valley Police Department Checkpoint

Don't drink and drive - designate a sober driverThe Moreno Valley Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint on Thursday January 28, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., in the City of Moreno Valley, where a significant number of DUI-related collisions and DUI arrests have occurred. Officers will screen drivers passing through the checkpoint for sobriety and for a valid driver's license. Drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs will be arrested, and unlicensed drivers may be cited and have their cars towed.

"DUI arrests can be embarrassing and expensive, but they're easy to prevent," said Police Chief John Anderson. "If you're drinking, hand your keys over to a designated sober driver, or call a taxi or sober friend for a ride home. Don't risk an arrest ---or worse, a serious injury or even death."

The purpose of the sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of traffic collisions related to intoxicated drivers and hit and run collisions. The checkpoint will serve as a reminder to use designated drivers and not drink and drive. Our message is simple: if we catch you drunk, you will be arrested.

It is the Moreno Valley Police Department’s goal to continue providing public awareness on the dangers of drinking and driving, and the laws concerning driving without a driver’s license. Motorists approaching a checkpoint will observe traffic signs, information and police officers advising that a checkpoint is ahead. Once diverted into a lane, motorists will be delayed a moment while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.

Funding for this checkpoint comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. We can all help make our streets safer, please report Drunk Drivers – Call 911.

California Office of Traffic Safety Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
