Details:

On Thursday, January 28, 2010, officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department conducted several DUI safety checkpoints in various locations throughout the City of Moreno Valley. One of the checkpoints was conducted on Alessandro Boulevard just west of Covey Quail Lane. An officer assigned to the location was in the process of setting up cones, when he was struck by a passing vehicle traveling eastbound in the number one lane.

The driver of the vehicle which struck the officer stopped and was contacted by other officers who were nearby. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the injured officer to the Riverside County Regional Medical Center for treatment. The officer was admitted and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol assisted in conducting the collision investigation. During the investigation, the portion of Alessandro Blvd. between Indian Avenue and Perris Boulevard was closed on 1/28/10 from 2227 hours until 0315 hours on 1/29/10.
