At 1830 hours on January 13, 2010, officers of the Moreno Valley Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to a report of a major injury traffic collision, on Cottonwood Avenue and Festival Way in the City of Moreno Valley. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a female Moreno Valley resident driving in a blue Ford Explorer was traveling westbound on Cottonwood and swerved into oncoming eastbound lanes of traffic.
The female driver struck a silver Nissan Quest minivan on the driver’s side front quarter panel. Moreno Valley Fire also responded and all parties involved in the collision were transported to the Riverside Community Regional Medical Center. The female driver of the blue Ford Explorer later succumbed to her injuries. A passenger of the blue Ford Explorer sustained a broken right ankle. According to independent witness statements, it appeared the driver of the blue Ford Explorer swerved to the left to avoid colliding with a lowered, black, two-door Honda that was weaving in and out of traffic.
The portion of Cottonwood Avenue between Rundell Drive and Heacock Street was closed at 1830 hours and will remain closed until the investigation is completed.
