On March 9, 2019, in an ongoing effort to provide assistance to those in need, as well as to serve outstanding warrants within the community, Lake Elsinore Police spearheaded an outreach operation. The operation included the collaborated efforts of officers from Lake Elsinore Police and Riverside Sheriff's Homeless Outreach Team, as well as volunteers from Social Work Action Group (SWAG), Riverside County Behavioral Health, and Lake Elsinore Dream Center. During the operation, a total of 16 homeless camps were visited, resulting in 37 people being contacted and offered resources and support services such as mental health, transitional housing, and shelter resources. Of the 37 people contacted, 10 accepted assistance. Another 19 people were cited and released within the city for Misdemeanor warrants and provided with court dates. An additional 6 people were arrested and booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center for the following crimes:
- 1 Public intoxication:
- David Burcham, 57 of Lake Elsinore
- 2 Under the Influence of Drugs:
- Pati Lomeli, 25 of Lake Elsinore
- David De La Rosa, 25 of Lake Elsinore
- 2 Felony drug arrest:
- Jeremy Derain, 36 of Lake Elsinore
- Reynaldo Salgado, 43, of Lake Elsinore
- 1 Felony weapons warrant service
- Brian Morgan, 29 of Temecula
Due in part to the success of the operation, and its positive impact on public safety and the overall quality of life of those who live in the community, further sweeps will be conducted in the future as needed.
