On January 1, 2018, at 12:02 a.m., Lake Elsinore Police Traffic Officers responded to a reported traffic collision at Riverside Drive and Joy Street, Lake Elsinore. Upon arriving, officers learned a Dodge Charger traveling eastbound on Riverside Drive collided broadside with a Jeep Cherokee, which had been traveling northbound on Joy Street. The front-passenger of the Jeep Cherokee, a 59 year-old female of Lakeside, was ejected by the force of the collision and pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor to the collision. Riverside Drive was closed to traffic for approximately five hours during the initial investigation.
