On December 29, 2017, at 1:35 p.m., Lake Elsinore Police Traffic Officers and CalFire responded to a reported traffic collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist at Mission Trail and Malaga, Lake Elsinore. Upon arriving, officers learned a Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound on Mission Trail collided broadside with a bicyclist traveling westbound within the intersection. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment of multiple traumatic injuries. The driver of the Tacoma was uninjured. On Wednesday, January 3, 2018, the cyclist, a 70 year-old Lake Elsinore man, succumbed to his injuries. The Traffic Reconstruction Team of the Lake Elsinore Police Department is conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor to the collision.
