Incident Date: May 07, 2019 Time: 01:20 AM

Details:

On Tuesday, May 07, 2019, about 1:20 AM, a deputy from the Jurupa Valley Police Department located two vehicles travelling side-by-side, southbound on Etiwanda Avenue near 54th Street, at speeds of over 100 MPH. Their actions jeopardized the public as well as the participants themselves. After observing what appeared to be a speed contest, the deputy immediately activated his overhead lights and sirens to conduct a zero-tolerance enforcement on the illegal street racing. Both vehicles yielded, without incident, at the intersection of Etiwanda Avenue and Limonite Avenue.

The drivers of each vehicle were identified as Andrew Palma, a 19-year old Hispanic male from Eastvale, and Samuel Salazar, a 19-year old Hispanic male from Ontario. Both drivers were arrested and transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center, where they were booked for violation of California Vehicle Code section 23109(a), Speed Contest, a misdemeanor. Both vehicles were impounded for 30-days under California Vehicle Code authority section 23109.2(a), for being used in a speed contest.

The Jurupa Valley Station, serving the cities of Jurupa Valley, Eastvale, Norco, and unincorporated communities of Riverside and Corona, enforces a zero tolerance on street racing and all its related activities. In an effort to keep the community safe, the Jurupa Valley Station will continue enforcement to combat street racing activities and reckless driving. Business owners and residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity directly to law enforcement by calling Sheriff's Dispatch at (951) 776-1099, or by calling 911 if the matter is an emergency.
