On Sunday, February 7, 2010, at approximately 9:00 P.M., officers from the Coachella Police Department responded to the 84000 block of Redondo Sur, in reference to numerous gunshots fired in that area. Officers found that a residence and a vehicle had been struck multiple times by rounds fired from an unknown-type firearm. Witnesses interviewed in the area saw a male run from the scene and get into a newer, four-door vehicle, either tan or silver in color. The car was last seen heading toward Avenue 50. No one was injured and no other residences were targeted. Information gathered during the investigation indicates the incident might be gang-related.
The Coachella Police Department would like to take this opportunity to encourage the public to report suspicious people, vehicles and gang activity in order to assist the department in its effort to improve quality of life. We will also continue our program Operation Safe Coachella, taking a zero-tolerance approach towards gangs and violence in the city.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Investigator Bill Conoway at (760) 863-8990 or by calling the Valley Crime Stoppers program at 760-341-7867.
