Update #2:

On January 7, 2010, Investigators from the San Jacinto Police Department with assistance from the Inland Regional Apprehension Team (IRAT), which is an FBI violent crimes fugitive taskforce comprised of members from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Riverside Police Department, Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, and the San Bernardino Police Department arrested Victor James Hernandez, age 22, of Hemet, near the intersection of Florida Avenue and Alessandro Street in the city of Hemet.

Hernandez was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning for the following charges: Attempted Murder 664-187 PC, Robbery 211 PC, Burglary 459 PC, Telephone Obstruction 591 PC, and Violation of Probation 1203.2 PC.

The San Jacinto Police Department would like to thank the many citizens who contributed information that led to the capture of the suspect.

The 86-year-old victim is still hospitalized but has been downgraded from critical to stable condition.

Investigators from the San Jacinto Police Department have identified the suspect in this crime and are actively seeking the whereabouts of Victor James Hernandez 06/10/87 of Hemet or San Jacinto. Please see photographs below. Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to call 911.

Details:

On January, 1, 2010, at approximately 6:35 am, officers from the San Jacinto Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Beringer Drive regarding a possible home invasion robbery. The homeowner called 911 when an unknown male subject broke a window to the home and entered the residence.

Officers arrived on scene within minutes and observed the front window screen of the residence had been removed. Officers also observed a male subject flee the rear of the residence. Deputies entered the residence to find the homeowner had been assaulted. She described the suspect as a white or Hispanic male wearing white shirt and black pants. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A perimeter was immediately established surrounding the area and an extensive search for the suspect was initiated. Surrounding units from Hemet and San Jacinto immediately began responding to the location. A Canine Unit from the City of Hemet and a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Bloodhound Unit also arrived to aid in a door-to-door search for the suspect. Investigators and Forensic units arrived on scene to contact neighborhood residents and to gather evidence. The suspect was not located, however several leads were followed and the investigation continues.
