On January 3, 2018, about 4:12 PM, members of the Region 7 Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force made a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation near Rubidoux Boulevard and the eastbound Interstate 60 on-ramp in Jurupa Valley. Task force officers contacted the driver, identified as 33-year-old Moreno Valley resident, Ramon Rivas. It was determined Rivas was on PRCS or Post Release Community Supervision for weapons violations and an active participant of a criminal street gang.
Task force officers with assistance from Jurupa Valley Station deputies conducted a search of Rivas’ vehicle. Officers located a hidden compartment containing a loaded handgun and over a ½ pound of methamphetamine. Additional items indicative of drug sales were also located in the vehicle along with ammunition. Rivas was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for the following charges:
- Possession of methamphetamine with a loaded firearm
- Transportation of methamphetamine with use of hidden compartment
- Methamphetamine sales
- Felon in possession of a loaded firearm
- Gang member in possession of a loaded and unregistered firearm
- PRCS violation
- Prior prison terms
The Region 7 Gang Task Force is one of eight teams composing the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force, which is a collaborative effort of 25 law enforcement agencies with the goal of combating criminal street gangs throughout Riverside County. The Region 7 Gang Task Force is composed of members from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Probation and Parole.
